Lois M. Richards, 92, died peacefully Sunday, October 19, 2025, at her residence after a long illness.
Born in Albany, she was the daughter of Warren MacMillen and Alva (McCabe) MacMillen, and wife of 72 years of Ronald I. Richards. She resided in West Sand Lake for over 60 years and was a graduate of Troy High School.
Lois was a homemaker, and after her children were grown she was employed by Averill Park School District, where she transported children to the Wildwood School. Lois enjoyed the outdoors, and took long walks daily into her mid-eighties. She was also an avid reader, and had a genuine talent for sewing, crafts, crochet, quilting and baking. Lois made the holidays (especially Christmas) very special in her home. Her creations will continue to adorn the homes of her children and grandchildren.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, Ronald, include her children: Martin A. Richards, Defreestville; Paul D. (Toni) Richards, North Carolina; David A. (Debbie) Richards, Delanson; Stacey Richards, West Sand Lake; Leslie (Carmelo) Ortiz, Poestenkill; and Amy L. Richards, West Sand Lake. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Mark W. Richards, and her brothers, Walter, William and Warren MacMillen, and her sister, Audrey Hiller.
Lois had a special bond with her three youngest grandchildren: Kendra of West Sand Lake, Derek of Los Angeles, and Alexandra of New York City. Through countless hockey games, dance recitals, volleyball matches, softball games and other special events, “Gram” made sure to be there for them.
All services will be private at the convenience of the family.
Interment will be in New Rural Cemetery in Rensselaer.
