Obituary

Guilderland - Lillian  K. Rosenfield, 96, died Monday, December 19, 2022, at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland after a long illness.

Born in Wynantskill, she was daughter of the late Henry F. King and Bessie Ford King and wife of the late Richard C. Rosenfield. She resided in Wynantskill, and later in Clifton Park.  She was a graduate of Potsdam State Teachers College, now SUNY Potsdam.

Lillian was employed as an elementary school teacher in the Averill Park and Wynantskill School Districts. She was a communicant of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Troy and the organist and choir director at St. Paul's for many years.  She was also an organist at area churches and a pianist for the Kiwanis Club and other organizations and special events.  Lillian was an enthusiastic lifelong reader and a librarian and founding member of the North Greenbush Public Library.  Lillian was  instrumental in setting up the first library for inmates at the Rensselaer County Jail.  She was also on the board of directors of Canterbury House in Troy.

Lillian was an avid golfer, and was the secretary for Burden Lake Country Club for many years.  She held the title of “Ladies Club Champion” two different years.  Lillian was a passionate Red Sox fan, and loved to complete the NY Times crossword puzzle every Sunday.

Survivors include two daughters, Katherine E. (Gene) Kelenski, Dataw Island, SC and Patricia J. Howland, Clifton Park, a son, Jeffrey A. (Kathleen) Rosenfield, Malone; a brother, Robert W. King, Greeneville, TN;  her grandchildren, Samuel Pirofsky, Plattsburgh, Thomas (Sara) Howland, Escondido, CA, and Suzanne (Steven) Cousineau, Saratoga Springs, NY; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her sisters, Jane K. Marchese and Eleanor F. Markel, grandson Benjamin Pirofsky, and three nephews, Garth King, Michael Marchese, and Gary Markel.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at 10 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church State and Third Streets Troy with a graveside service to follow at 12:30 PM at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Schuylerville with Rev. Michael Gorchov, officiating.
