Kevin Sarsfield Obituary

Averill Park - Kevin Paul Sarsfield, 77, died peacefully Friday, March 20, 2026, after a brief illness, with his wife and sons by his side.

Born June 27, 1948 in Mountmellick, Ireland, he was the son of the late John Edward Sarsfield and Dorothy Strunk Sarsfield. He was raised in Albany and resided in Averill Park from 1986 until the time of his passing.

Kevin was married for 52 years to his beloved wife Phyllis, and was a proud father to their three sons, Todd, Ryan, and Brett. He cherished his daughter-in-law Melissa and his two grandchildren, Grayson and Evelyn.

He was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy and earned his Bachelor's degree from Manhattan College and a Master's degree from SUNY Albany. He began his career in education at St. John's Academy in Rensselaer, before teaching biology for 30 years at Columbia High School in East Greenbush.

Known for his courteous good nature and quick wit, Kevin would share a well timed joke with friends and strangers alike. He served his community as a member of the Kiwanis Club of Sand Lake for 32 years. A collegiate golfer, and in his later years, a member of the Art Quinn Memorial League, his lifelong passion for the game led him to play on both Pebble Beach and the Old Course at St. Andrews. At the age of 73 he made a hole-in-one. A talented photographer and always with a camera in hand, he mentored many including his three sons who carry on his love of the craft. In retirement, Kevin and Phyllis enjoyed traveling, particularly visiting his birthplace in Ireland. His family will always remember the joy he shared having fun with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Peck Sarsfield, Averill Park, NY, his three sons, Todd (Melissa Abramson) Matthew Sarsfield, South Orange, NJ, Ryan Paul Sarsfield, Washington, DC and Brett McNeil Sarsfield, Averill Park; two grandchildren, Grayson and Evelyn Sarsfield; his siblings, Michael (Mary Ann) Sarsfield, Long Island, Joseph Sarsfield, Fayetteville, NC, Aileen Baugh, Newport, TN and Steven (Rachel) Sarsfield, Greenville, NY and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Parker.
