West Sand Lake - June Hutchinson Coyne, 89, died Friday, March 4, 2022, at Samaritan Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Auburn, Maine, she was daughter of the late Carroll Hutchinson and Charlotte Cobb Hutchinson and wife for 47 years of the late Eugene M. Coyne. She was raised in Auburn, Maine, and was a graduate of Edward Little High School where she met her future husband. She helped build a log cabin with Gene in Harpswell, ME where they resided. June followed her husband living in California and Washington DC while he was in the military, then Glens Falls before moving to the West Sand Lake area prior to 1960. While driving across the country to see her husband from California, June carried a shotgun under the seat.
She held many jobs, starting as a soda jerk and black and white photo colorizer in Auburn, Maine where she worked when she wasn’t cheerleading. She edited books at Boyd's Printing Company in Albany with her husband. June was a teacher's aide for special needs children at local schools for 15 years retiring 27 years ago, in addition to raising her four sons.
She and Eugene were known by friends for their unique nicknames, June 'petunia' and Eugene 'shrimp'. Because Eugene was so shy, while building their cabin he asked his then girlfriend, June, "where do you want YOUR kitchen", his way of proposing. June enjoyed tap dancing, line dancing ,tai chi and was an active member of the Sand Lake Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. June was always smiling, made her friends and family happy and was loved by everyone who knew her.
