Troy - Joyce M. Galante, Esq., Attorney At Law, 84, died Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Eddy Heritage House Nursing Center after a long illness.
Born in New York, she was daughter of the late Nicholas T. Galante and Violet A. Broccoli Galante. She was formerly of Watervliet-Shaker Road Watervliet. She was a graduate of Academy of the Holy Names, Marymount-Fordham College in Tarrytown, NY and earned her Doctorate, Doctor of Law degree from Albany Law School. Joyce was a pioneer for women and an advocate for children. She was one of the first women admitted to Albany Law School. She was loved by many in all walks of life, especially her family and her many friends and colleagues. We wish to thank her lifelong friend, Rhea Clark and the residents and Sisters of Parkland as well as the Nurses and aides of Eddy Heritage House.
Joyce established her law practice in 1965 on Second Street in Troy, in Family and Matrimonial Law and Child Advocacy retiring in 2022.
She was a communicant of St. Pius X, Loudonville and a member of the American Bar Association, NYS Bar Association and Rensselaer County Bar Association and President 1976-1977. the Fort Orange Club, Former Board member of Academy of the Holy Names, and Sunnyside Center and Trustee of Supreme Court Library in Troy. A Chairman 1976-1981 of Rensselaer County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, Former Trustee and Officer of Rensselaer County Historical Society. In April 2010- she received the Supreme Court Appellate Division Third Department John T. Hamilton Jr. Award for Excellence in Law Guardian representation and in October 2013- was the Recipient of the Jones Fund Award.
Survivors include two sisters , Carolann Jacobson, West Chester, PA and Lana E. (Thomas) Zanello, Franklin Lakes, NJ; a brother, Nicholas (late Tracy) T. Galante, Woodland Hill, CA; her nieces and nephews, Charles N. (Gina) Jacobson, Nicholas Galante IV, James Galante, Elizabeth N. (Peter Gonsavles) Galante, Lindsay N. (Jonathan Imbert) Zanello, Katharine Meier, Christina Galante and Alexandria (Christian) Fuentes and great nephews, Gabriel Gonsalves, Atticus and August Meier, Everett Fuentes and Calvin Galante-Wilson.
Relatives and friends may call at St. Pius X Church 23 Crumitie Road Loudonville on Monday, March 16, 2026 from 10-11AM with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11AM.
Entombment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in the family mausoleum Menands.
