Poestenkill - Joseph Henry Jankovic, 79, died Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Samaritan Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Orangeburg, NY, he was son of the late Joseph R. Jankovic and Edna M. Greening Jankovic and husband for 58 years of Diane H. Kempter Jankovic. He was raised in Orangeburg, NY for 20 years and resided in Poestenkill for the past 49 years. He was a graduate of Nyack High School.
Joe was employed at Verizon for 35 years, retiring as a foreman 20 years ago.
He was a Commandant of the Troy Marine Detachment, a life member of the Poestenkill Fire Company, a Captain of the Poestenkill Ambulance, an avid racquetball player and loved off-roading as a Jeep fanatic. He and Diane enjoyed traveling around the United States with their friends, Jim and Jackie Myott. They also wintered in DeBary, Florida. He was a Corporal in the Marine Corps.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his children, Deborah H. (Ronald) Lessard, Corinth, Joseph R. (Melissa) Jankovic, Averill Park and Tammy (Neil VanDerSluys) Jankovic, Mechanicville; a sister, Edna M. Nixon, Byron, GA; 9 grandchildren, Joseph Lessard, April Aiken, Ronald Gorleski, Aaron (Amelia) Jankovic, JP Jankovic, Stephanie Jankovic, Robert and Benjamin V and Anna Jankovic and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Monday, December 6, 2021 from 4-7 PM with a funeral service to follow at 7 PM with Rev. Dr. Patricia A. Bush, officiating. Face covering and social distancing are required if not vaccinated.
Interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Schuylerville.
