Colonie - John J. “Jack” Gundrum Jr., 78, died Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital Weston, FL while on vacation.
Born in Troy, he was son of the late John J. Gundrum Sr. and Maud Turner Gundrum and beloved husband of Janet Curtis Gundrum (Jan).
Jack was brother of Sandra Massey of Texas and brother-in-law of Maureen Butler. He was predeceased by two sisters, Jesse A. Syzcyk and Tami S. Riley . He was the loving uncle to Marlena Peter of Florida, Tyler Peter (Michelle) of Newcomb, NY, Lisa Maiuro Diamond (Al) and Joseph Maiuro (Michelle), both of Florida. Jack also had a special place in his heart for Jan's nieces, Thomasina Wilson (Mike) and Donna DeFilippo (Jay) and their families. He leaves many cousins and friends.
Jack served his country in the Air Force, serving in Vietnam. Upon returning to civilian life, he began to rebuild his life with his life-long work as a Licensed Electrician and General Contractor, eventually meeting the love of his life, Jan, while teaching country line dancing.
Because of his caring and loving nature--Jack would always give you a hug. Through his work, dancing, and travel Jack made many friends who have remained close over the years. He loved to travel, near and far, and especially cruising, going to the casino, and sharing time with family and friends.
