John had a love for model building, especially radio-controlled airplanes. He was a member of the Hoosick Aeromodelers, along with his nephew Gregory Kronau, where together they spent many hours flying. He also enjoyed baseball, playing for Averill Park High and with which he shared many dates with Christine. During his retirement, John shared his talent for auto body with his daughter, son, son-in-law and grandsons, restoring an MG and Dodge pickup truck.
