East Poestenkill - John J. Jacon, Sr., 91, died Wednesday, December 29, 2021, after a brief illness.
Born and raised in Troy, he was the son of the late Joseph Jacon and Mary Rutkowski Jacon and husband of Jean DuCuennois Jacon and the late Eva Piniaha Jacon. He made his home in Poestenkill for over 60 years. John’s life revolved around his family. He was happiest when surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whether on vacation in Maine, celebrating weddings and holidays, or at one sporting event or another.
John was a Data Processing Supervisor for Sterling Winthrop in Rensselaer, retiring in 1985. He was a Past-Commander of the Sullivan-Jones Post #7466 VFW, a grandfather member of the Poestenkill Fire Company and a communicant of St. Henry's Church in Averill Park. John was an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving as an MP in Europe.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his children, Cynthia (Paul) Wilson, Mendon, MA, Joanne Jacon, East Greenbush, John (Laurel) Jacon, Jr., Valatie, Jeffrey (Carol) Jacon, Poestenkill, David (Susan) Jacon, Poestenkill and Scott Scovill, Nashville, TN; his grandchildren, Adam, Amy, Abagail, Justin, Eric, Thomas, Daniel and Alyssa; 8 great grandchildren; a sister, Teresa O'Connor, Troy and and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 8 siblings, Mary, Toni, Helen, Jane, Ann, Sophie, Joseph and Thomas.
Relatives and friends may call at St. Henry's Church 39 Old Route 66Averill Park on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 from 10AM - 12 Noon with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 12 Noon with Rev. Thomas F. Holmes, Pastor. Face covering and social distancing are required
Interment will be in St. Henry's Cemetery Averill Park.
