Watervliet - John S. Gleason, 85, died Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Van Rensselaer Manor after a long illness with his loving companion by his side.
Born in Cohoes, he was son of the late Theresa Rettinger Gamache and companion of Ernestine Plumley. He was raised in Cohoes, moved to Waterford in 1976 and to Watervliet in 2011 and was a graduate of Keveny Memorial Academy in Cohoes.
John was a bus driver for the Averill Park School District for 12 years, retiring in 2012 and previously worked construction for the Laborers Union Local Troy, Hudson Armored Car and was a part-time limousine driver for All Occasion Limousine.
He was a former member of the Veteran's of Lansingburgh, enjoyed watching wrestling, playing basketball, and traveling to casinos, the Jersey shore, Las Vegas and Florida. He was a Navy veteran aboard the USS Independence during the Korean War.
Survivors in addition to his companion include his children John, Darrin (Vanessa), Michael (Kristine) Gleason; Ernestine’s children, John, Daniel and Matthew (Kelly Wehnau) Plumley, Tina (Mark) Mann, Dawn (Jay) Hamel and Timothy (Laura Bartrick) and Ernest Plumley; his grandchildren, Alyssa (Brett Mollnow), John, Zoe, Tess, Maeve, Daniel, Grace, Karlee, Alysha, Nicholas, Jacob, Ty, Taylor and Zachary and a great grandchild, Charlee.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Friday, March 24, 2023 from 4-7PM.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 9:15AM at the funeral home and at 10AM at Our Lady of Assumption Church Latham where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Geoffrey D. Burke, Pastor.
Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery Waterford.
