Poestenkill - John T. Bunney, 90, died Tuesday, December 6, 2022, in East Greenbush after a brief illness.
Born in Whitehall, and later residing in Poestenkill, he was son of the late James T. Bunney and Marjorie Knight Bunney and loving husband of Angeline Foglia Bunney for 66 years.
John was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and served on the USS Noa (DD-841). Dedicated to serving his community, John was the Police Chief of the Poestenkill Police Department for 9 years and Captain of the fire department at the Watervliet Arsenal for 33 years. He retired in 1982.
John enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing guitar and banjo, cooking, and tending to his beloved garden.
Time spent with his family was most precious to John. His family will deeply treasure many wonderful moments spent together.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Angeline Foglia Bunney; two sons, Daniel (Suzanne) Bunney, East Nassau and David (Laurie) Bunney, Berlin; a daughter, Maribeth (Michael Baranowski) Kuhn, Poestenkill; a sister, Norma Novak, East Greenbush; his grandchildren, Danielle Bunney (Erkki) Oman, John (Samantha) Bunney and Reese Bunney; a great granddaughter, Kira Bunney and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, John T. Bunney, Jr. and a sister, Dorothy Budesheim.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Interment will be in St. Henry's Cemetery in Averill Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of John T. Bunney to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
