East Schodack - Joan Marie Charbonneau Cooper, 90, died Sunday, July 25, 2021, at St. Peter's Nursing & Rehab Center Albany after a long illness.
Born in Cohoes, she was daughter of the late Howard Charbonneau and Mary Froelich Charbonneau and wife of the late George N. Cooper, of 54 years. She had resided in East Schodack for 61 years, was a 1948 graduate of Catholic Central High School and was a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nassau.
Joan was a homemaker for many years and later worked as a broker/agent in real estate and was a secretary for a Dean at Hudson Valley Community College, where she had retired from.
She was a Red Cross swimming instructor where she taught swimming and lifesaving skills at Lyons Lake, a Cub Scout Den Mother and an active participant at the Schodack Senior Center, where she was a member of the Over The Hill Gang Chorus. She enjoyed playing darts. She was a self taught pianist and enjoyed crocheting and an avid reader.
Survivors include three sons, Lawrence Douglas (Cathie) Cooper, Elon, NC, Thomas George (Lynda) Cooper, Rensselaer and Daniel James (Jill) Cooper, Young, AZ; a daughter, Christine Joan Cooper, Castleton; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 30, 2021 at 10 AM at St. Mary's of the Nativity 26 Church Street Nassau. Face covering and social distancing are required if not vaccinated.
A private Interment for the immediate family will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Nassau.
