Troy - Joan Whitney Collins Schiesser, 78, died Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at St. Peter's Hospital Inn Albany after a brief illness.
Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late Harold D. Whitney and Marion H. Russell Whitney and wife of the late Lloyd Schiesser and Douglas Collins, Sr. She had resided in East Poestenkill most of her life and attended Averill Park High School.
Joan was the head cook for Canterbury House in Troy for 41 years, retiring in 2016.
She loved to cook and was an active member of the Union Gospel Church as a Trustee, Communion Server and a member of the Ladies Aide and currently a member of the First Baptist Church of East Poestenkill.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Kera and Randall Collins; her siblings, Keith Whitney, Poestenkill, Colleen Smith, TN, Iola Pratt, Watervliet, Jody Whitney, Middleton, TN, Arthur (Linda) Whitney, East Poestenkill, Brian (Shelia) Whitney, Middleton, TN, Bruce Whitney, East Poestenkill, Greg (Lois) Whitney, Brunswick and Timothy (Anna) Whitney, TN and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Michelle Ann Collins; a son, Douglas Collins Jr.; two sisters, Cheryl Whitney and Lucretia 'Lucky' Ballard and a brother, Joel Whitney.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Friday, September 22, 2023 from 9-11AM with a funeral service to follow at 11AM.
Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery Barberville.
