Hoosick Falls - On June 11, 2023, Jeanette Rounds Zort, loving mother of two, grandmother of 6, and teacher of many, passed away at the age of 86 following a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Jeanette was born on February 18, 1937 in Albany, NY to the late Adele Glynn Rounds and Wilbur Rounds. She graduated as the Salutatorian from Burnt Hills - Ballston Lake School, class of 1955. She received her teaching degree at SUNY Oneonta in 1959, and attended Columbia University. Jeanette began her career in the Scotia-Glenville school district, and taught for 25 years at School 14 in Troy, NY.
Teaching was Jeanette’s greatest passion. She loved her students and enjoyed watching them learn and grow both in and out of her classroom. She took pride in being a Troy teacher. She spent every opportunity searching for new ways to engage her students to reach their fullest potential. She wrote plays for them to perform, poetry for them to aspire to, and took them on many walking field trips throughout the city of Troy. After retiring from Troy, she found herself a snowbird, heading to Florida for the winter where she would help out in after school programs for children, running story hours and homework help sessions.
Jeanette was predeceased by her parents, Adele and Wilbur Rounds, her brother, Robert Rounds; sister, Louise Smith (Frank); nephew, Glenn Smith, and her niece, Diana Miller-Palay. She is survived by her son, Robert (Susan) Zort; daughter, Elizabeth Willson and son-in-law, Wayne Willson; grandsons, Raymond Crobok Jr (Brittany Villardi), Ryan Crobok, Reid Crobok, Jacob Zort, and granddaughters, Lillie and Jeanette Zort. Her sisters, Carol (Herb) Smith, Nancy (Marty) Rosenkranz, Susan (William) Matuszak; her brother, John (Sue) Rounds; Sister-in-law, MaryAnn Rounds. and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the people of Hoosick Falls who welcomed my mother’s walking feet with open arms. Maeve McCauliffe for having the kindest soul around, the staff at the Danforth and at Bennington Health and Rehab, the caring staff from BAYADA Hospice (her hospice nurse Nora), the members of the First Presbyterian Church, and St Mary’s school for allowing her to continue to come into their classrooms and read to the students. It takes a village to survive this disease and we cannot be more appreciative.
