Troy - Janet Kelley Johnson, 82, a longtime member of the Troy community, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Rosewood Nursing Home.
Born in Concord, Massachusetts, to Daniel and Helen Neville Kelley, Janet graduated from Troy High School and went on to earn her degree from the College of Saint Rose. In 1964, she married the love of her life, Stephen Johnson Jr., with whom she raised three sons. Janet taught for Wynantskill schools for several years before leaving to raise her boys. She later worked as a secretary for the detective bureau of the Troy Police Department for 20 years, retiring in 2001.
Janet was preceded in death by her beloved husband, as well as her brother, Joseph Kelley and brothers-in-law, William Dumbleton, Dermot McCarthy, and Karl Hemker, and sister-in-law, Dorothy Hemker. She was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Anita Johnson.
Janet is survived by her three sons and their families: Stephen (Anne) of Delmar, Daniel (Kalee) of Henrietta, NY, and Kevin (Janette) of Castro Valley, CA. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Lila, Luke, Hank, and Sadie Johnson.
In addition to her immediate family, Janet will be lovingly remembered by sister-in-law, Donna Kelley of Brewster, MA; sister Carrie McCarthy of County Cork, Ireland; brother Daniel Kelly and wife Linda of Wynantskill; sister Tricia McCarthy and husband Stephen of County Cork, Ireland; sister Mary Edwards and husband Robert of Stockbridge, MA; brother James Kelley and wife Nancy of Troy; and sister-in-law, Susanne Dumbleton of Chicago. She is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may pay their respects at Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. located at 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy on Wednesday, March 20 from 4 PM to 6 PM. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 21 at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. John Yanas, Pastor.
