Janet (Griffin) Gordon

Troy - Janet Griffin Gordon, 95, died March 30th, 2023, at Eddy Heritage House in Troy. Born on May 9, 1927, she was the daughter of Lewis Griffin and Gladys Kent Griffin, and wife for 64 years of William Gordon. She was raised in West Stephentown, was a 1945 graduate of Averill Park High School, and resided in Troy since 1987.

Janet was a long time employee of the Troy Savings Bank, serving for many years as Personnel Director. After her retirement in 1985, she was an active member of the volunteer community. She began her years of service working with Eddy Visiting Nurses, then went on to Albany Memorial Hospital, volunteering in the education department, and finally volunteered at Van Rensselaer Manor in the activities department.

Janet was witty and fashionable, and was an avid reader. She loved decorating her home, hosting get-togethers, and spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, W. Steven (Donna) Gordon, Orlando, Florida; a granddaughter, Hillary (Christopher) Chandler, Knoxville, Tennessee; a grandson, Cully Gordon, Troy; six great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Madeleine, Annabel, Lillian, Genevieve, and Emmeline Chandler; two nieces, Marilyn Southard Warshawsky and Cynthia Southard Coghill, and former daughter-in-law Lucy Osterhout. In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by three sisters, Elizabeth Shepard, Lois Southard and Joyce Hutwelker. 

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Friday, April 7, 2023 from 10-11 AM with funeral service at 11 AM with Rev. Trygve Tomlinson, officiating. 

Entombment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery Mausoleum, Menands.
