Jane Cluett Hansen Obituary

Petersburgh – Jane Cluett Hansen. 92, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. Born in Troy, NY, Jane was the daughter of the late John Girvin Cluett and Caroline Buck, and wife of the late J. Arthur Hansen. During her educational years she attended Emma Willard School, House in the Pines, and Russell Sage College from where she graduated with a degree in Physical Education. Jane met her first husband, John E Sichel, in Cleveland, Ohio where she was working as a Physical Education teacher and he was studying agriculture. They married in 1957 and moved to Denmark to his family farm where they brought up their five children. Life was busy and enjoyable for Jane, bringing up children and also attending to the many agriculture students who came to work over the years.

Following the sale of the farm in 1978 and Jane’s subsequent divorce, she and Arthur married and in 1987 they moved to the United States, ultimately settling in Petersburgh. Work and interests included teaching an after-school gym class and working with special needs children. Jane and Arthur enjoyed folk dancing and being part of the Bennington County Choral Society. For many years Jane was a volunteer at the Hart-Cluett Museum in Troy. At home, they enjoyed the company of family and friends and hosted a yearly open house on New Year’s Day; Sunday morning breakfasts became a tradition for family and the immediate neighbors.

Jane is survived by her five children: Brian Sichel / Barbara, Heidi Sichel, Robin Sichel, Carsten Sichel / Susanne, and Wendy Cluett; seven grandchildren: Aiden, Emilie, Megan and Lucas Coutin, Rebecca and Charlie Sichel, and Ethan Cluett, as well as her two brothers, John G Cluett and Allen B Cluett / Annie in addition to nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jane will be interred together with Arthur on Thursday, November 6th, 2025 at 11:00AM at Oakwood Cemetery, 186 Oakwood Avenue Troy, NY 12180. For those who wish to attend, please meet us at the Gardner Earl Memorial Chapel at 10:45.

Jane's family would like to invite you to light refreshments and snacks at Grafton Baptist Church Fellowship Hall following the internment.
