Cohoes - Jane Baylis O'Brien, 98, died Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Eddy Village Green Cohoes after a long illness.
Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late Henry W. Baylis and Helen C. Crell Baylis and wife of the late Albert J. O'Brien. She had resided in the Troy area most of her life. Jane earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of St. Rose and her Masters from the State University of New York at Albany.
She was a Professor at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy from 1962-85.
Jane was a member of the Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary and Chairman of its Corner Shop, a member and Chapter President of the Troy Area Chapter #3991 of the American Association of Retired Persons. She was also a member of the Troy Area Retired Teachers Association, The Friends of the North Greenbush Library, a Communicant of St Jude the Apostle Church in Wynantskill and President of its Rosary Altar Society.
Survivors include a sister, Joan Maguire (late Bruce) of Ballwin, MO and nieces and nephews, George (Joan) Cusack, Jr. of Mechanicville, Matthew Maguire of Rhinebeck, Michael Maguire of St. Louis, MO, James Maguire of Oakland, CA and Mary Maguire of Carmichael, CA. She was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia M. O'Brien; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Florence Cusack, Sr. and a niece, Alice M. Bosselman (late Henry).
At Jane's request her body was donated to the Anatomical Gift Program of Albany Medical College and in the future her cremains will be interred in her family plot in Elmwood Hill Cemetery Troy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 11 AM at St. Jude the Apostle Church 43 Brookside Avenue Wynantskill with Rev. Patrick Rice, Pastor.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated, Friday, July 7, 2023 at 10:30am at Sacred Heart Church, Pawling Avenue Troy with Rev. John Yanas, Pastor, celebrating.
