Loudonville and Washington, DC - Jane Sliter Gorzelnik, 97, of Oregon Avenue NW, Washington DC and formerly of Loudonville, New York, died peacefully in her sleep on July 15, 2021.
Born in Troy, NY she was the daughter of the late Arthur J. Sliter and Myrtle Little Sliter and wife of the late Commander Stanley Victor Gorzelnik. She was raised in Troy, resided in Loudonville from 1973-2014 and most recently in Washington, DC. She earned her Bachelor's of Business degree from Russell Sage College in 1945.
Jane’s joy in life was her family; she can be remembered driving her Cadillac around while playing Alan Jackson, with the license plate 'SEJAG' - all the first initials of her family. She enjoyed spending time with her children and her grandchildren, and most of all loved to watch them play sports. She traveled to many football, hockey, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, soccer, volleyball, softball and gymnastic events over the years, though she probably loved the hockey games most of all. Jane always loved to hear the latest news in her children’s lives and was supportive with advice or generous with her time. In her younger years, she loved to dance and to travel.
Jane had a very successful professional career, and was Director of Purchasing at Hudson Valley Community College for 35 years prior to retiring, and was the first woman President of the Upstate New York Purchasing Management Association and National Association of Educational Buyers.
She was an active volunteer with Albany Memorial Hospital, the Naval Reserves, Russell Sage College, and was a goodwill ambassador at the Albany International Airport. While volunteering, she was always known to have a big smile and a quick wit. She was a life-long NY Yankees fan and loved the sport of hockey (no matter who was playing).
