Averill Park - James A. Evans, 82, of Averill Park, NY, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family following a brief illness on October 25, 2025.
Jim was born on May 1, 1943 to Mildred Evans in Albany, NY. He served in the United States Air Force from 1961-1965. Following an honorable discharge, he earned an Associate’s degree from Hudson Valley Community College in 1968 and worked for the railroad before joining the NYS Workers’ Compensation Board in 1970. He retired from the WCB in 2011 after 41 years of service in the Disability Benefits Unit. He also served as Treasurer of the Hillside Cemetery Association until his passing.
Jim enjoyed watching sports, especially baseball, football, hockey, car racing and horse racing. He was eager to share his love and knowledge of trains, airplanes and astronomy, and he always looked forward to his Sunday trips to the Racino with his wife and daughter and watching his granddaughters play basketball, softball, lacrosse and field hockey.
Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years, Debra (Willbrant), his son Thomas (Sharon) Evans, his daughter Laura Evans, and his granddaughters Lillian and Cadence. He is also survived by his brother Francis (Linda) Evans, sister-in-law Sharon (William) Udwary, sister-in-law Bonnie Willbrant, brother-in-law Barry (David) Willbrant, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was predeceased by his mother Mildred Evans, sisters Marilyn (William) Kilduff and Joan (Salvatore) Indelicato, in-laws Allen and Betty Willbrant and brother-in-law Wesley Willbrant.
Funeral service private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hoags Corners Ambulance Association or the West Stephentown Baptist Church.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Samaritan Hospital Intensive Care Unit for their care and comfort.
