J. Arthur Hansen

Petersburgh - J. Arthur Hansen, 93, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Born in Canada, his parents had emigrated from Denmark and wanted to return but waited until after World War II was over. Arthur spent the next 40 years in Denmark before moving to the United States. Arthur was the son of the late Carl Johan Hansen and Elise Petra Henriette Nielsen and husband of Jane Cluett Hansen. Arthur and Jane moved from their home in Poestenkill to Petersburgh in 1991 where they have resided since.

Arthur was a jack-of-all trades. In the mid-1980's he worked temporarily in the United States for a Danish company (Vestas) in the developing windmill industry, spending time in Minnesota and Lodi, California supervising the proper construction of windmill blades. After moving to the US in 1987 and settling in Rensselaer County he worked for Kevin Kronau in construction, at the old Sand Lake School as a custodian, and also as a courier in Albany. After 'retirement' he and Jane delivered the Eastwick Press for eleven years. He also enjoyed connecting with the Danish Brotherhood, a small local Danish community. At home he was happy laying puzzles, especially when family members from overseas visited. Cutting and splitting firewood also kept him busy for many years.

Survivors, in addition to Jane, are his four children, Michael Lundqvist and Hanne, Torben Lundqvist, Dan Hansen and Helga, and Ani-Britt Lundqvist Hansen; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, as well as his sister, Anne Lise Nielsen. A celebration of life will take place on May 10th at the residence in Petersburgh. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of J.
