Irene Marie (Tubbs) Morris

Grafton - Irene Marie Tubbs Morris, 81, died Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Samaritan Hospital after an extended illness.

Born in Troy,  she was the daughter of the late Gordon LeRoy Tubbs and Elizabeth Arietta Harrington Tubbs. She had resided in Grafton until moving to Troy in 1943 where she lived until 1973, moving back to Grafton. She was a 1958 graduate of Troy High School where she was a member of the Library Club. She was a 1961 graduate of Samaritan School of Nursing where she was an instructor briefly and attended Russell Sage College. 

Irene was a deeply caring registered nurse at Samaritan Hospital and both the old and new Leonard Hospitals. She took care of her mother-in-law, worked in the office of Dr. Battu  for several years, specializing in Allergy and Asthma.

Irene attended Grace Methodist Episcopal Church in Troy where she was a member of the junior and senior choirs and enjoyed attending youth time and the 6th Avenue Baptist Church in Troy and its choir and a Sunday School Teacher. She also attended Alps Baptist and the Community Church of Grafton where she taught Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the Brunswick Presbyterian Church and its choir, a Sunday School assistant, a Deacon, and press liaison.  After she could no longer drive she attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Troy with her daughter.

Irene loved Jesus, family and people. She enjoyed speaking with everyone, attending concerts, singing, a wide variety of music, genealogy, travel, fireworks, parades and going to events at the Grafton Senior Center. She loved, adored and was so proud of her granddaughters, Claire and Gillian.    

Survivors include a son, Robert L. (Amy) Morris; a daughter, Cynthia L. Morris; two grandchildren, Claire E. And Gillian L. Morris; two brothers, Clifford and Richard Tubbs; a niece, Patricia Smith and many nephews, cousins and great nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by two brothers, Arnold (Elsie) Miller and Stanley (Laura) Miller.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Friday, June 24, 2022 from 5-8 PM.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 AM at the Brunswick Church 42 White Church Lane Troy with Rev. Kate Kotfila, officiating. 

Interment will be in  Elmwood Hill Cemetery Troy.
