Ingrid Effman Obituary

DUE TO THE EXTREME HEAT, THE VISITATION AND SERVICE HAS BEEN MOVED TO BRYCE FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWLING AVENUE TROY.  THURSDAY VISITATION 11AM-1PM.  SERVICE 1PM

West Sand Lake - Ingrid Agneta Effman, Esq., 56, died Friday, June 26, 2026, at her home surrounded by family after battling a highly aggressive brain cancer for 20 months.

Born in Alexandria, VA, she was the daughter of Agneta Ehrenroth Solomon and the late John Walter Solomon, and wife for nearly 31 years of Jason David Effman, Esq. She was raised in Akron, Ohio, resided in Brunswick, and has lived in West Sand Lake for the past 20 years. Ingrid was a graduate of Michigan State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, and the University of Toledo College of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor.

Ingrid started her legal career as a prosecutor in Yuma, Arizona, before she and her husband settled in the Capital District. Ingrid was a Rensselaer County Assistant District Attorney for over 5 years and an Assistant Public Defender for over 10 years, handling a wide variety of criminal matters. Ingrid also worked as both a plaintiff attorney and in-house counsel, handling a wide variety of personal injury, medical malpractice, premises liability, and other civil matters. One of Ingrid's proudest accomplishments was helping achieve a reversal in the NYS Court of Appeals, overturning the wrongful conviction of one of her clients.  In late 2022, she returned to the Travelers Insurance Company as Senior Counsel through the Law Office of John Wallace in Albany.  She was a longtime member of the Rensselaer County Bar Association, where she served as treasurer from 2023 to 2024.

Ingrid was extremely active throughout her life, even while fighting her illness. Ingrid enjoyed skiing, hiking, cycling indoors and out, Zumba, yoga, WeCarVin, and many other forms of exercise. She spent countless hours paddling the lakes around Averill Park and in the Adirondacks. She loved to travel, especially abroad, where she enjoyed exploring new places, snorkeling, ziplining, and even riding an ATV during the day, followed by fine food and wine in the evening. More than anything, she cherished her time with her loving family, their dogs, and many close friends.

In addition to her husband, Jason Effman, and mother, Agneta Solomon, she is survived by her three children, Zachary, Jared, and Gregory Effman; her sister, Alexandra Siegel (JD); her niece and nephew, Echo and Wylie Siegel; her mother-in-law, Leslie Effman; and her father-in-law, Norman Effman.

Relatives, friends, and associates may call at the Gardner Earl Chapel, 186 Oakwood Avenue, Troy, on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 11 AM-1 PM, followed by a memorial service at 1 PM with Mrs. Eleanor Aronstein, Humanist Celebrant. Family and friends are invited to participate in the interment to follow at Oakwood.
