Wynantskill - Hon. John Thomas Perkinson, 88, of Wynantskill died Thursday, February 25, 2021, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Troy, he was son of the late John Aloysius Perkinson and Kathryn D. Dougherty Perkinson, stepson of Alexander J. Paladin and husband for 61 years of M. Frances Masterson Perkinson.
John was raised in Troy and has resided in Wynantskill for over 55 years. He attended St. Peter's Academy in Troy, was a 1950 graduate of Catholic Central High School, earned his Bachelor's degree from St. Bonaventure of Siena, continued on to Albany School of Law and earned his admission to New York State Bar in 1961 from Union University.
After earning his Law degree, John was hired by the New York State Legislative Bill Drafting Commission when he started his own private law practice in Troy. He was later elected as North Greenbush Town Justice and eventually elected to Rensselaer County Family Court Judge where he served until his retirement in 1992. After his retirement he continued as a Hearing Officer.
John was a member of the American Legion Post #1489 in Wynantskill, the State Magistrate's Association, the North Greenbush Fire Department and the St Jude the Apostle School Board. He enjoyed scuba diving, golfing with his neighbor, Kyran Devery, and skiing. He was a proud Air Force veteran who served during the Korean War.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Frances, include his 3 children, John A. Perkinson, Megan A. Rockwell, and Patrick E. (Kathryn) Perkinson; his grandchildren, CJ (Allie) Rockwell, Dana (Joshua) Sams, Melissa (Rick) Morey, John (Stephanie) Rockwell, Aiden Rockwell and Nora, Mary, and Emmett Perkinson; his great grandchildren, Gunnar Morey and Theodore E. Rockwell and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by
his brother, Gary J. Perkinson.
Relatives and friends may call at the St. Jude the Apostle Church 43 Brookside Avenue in Wynantskill on March 1, 2021 from 4-7 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9:30AM at St. Jude the Apostle Church with the Very Rev. Anthony Ligato, Pastor. Face covering and social distancing are required both outside and inside during visitation and services.
Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery Watervliet.
