Gail Sanzone Obituary

Troy, NY - Gail Jean (Stevens) Sanzone passed away on February 13, 2025, at the age of 76, following a brief illness. She was deeply loved and celebrated by her family until the end, and her remarkable legacy endures. Born on April 8, 1948, in New Jersey, Gail developed a passion for learning and reading at a young age. She grew up in Johnson City, New York, with her two brothers and their mother. Gail attended SUNY Plattsburgh to pursue a degree in nursing, where she met Thomas J. Sanzone, the love of her life. Notably, Gail furthered her education at the University of Maryland, earning a master's degree in Family Therapy and advancing her knowledge in nursing, a remarkable achievement during a time when women's access to higher education was limited. She taught Nursing at Russell Sage College before dedicating herself to raising her four children.

When the time was right, she resumed her nursing career at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, where she worked for four decades. Gail was an extraordinary individual, distinguished by her compassion, educational prowess, nursing expertise, enthusiasm for science fiction, devotion to her family, and enduring love for her husband. Her zest for life's simple pleasures was evident in her fondness for L.L. Bean, Dunkin' coolattas, Stewart's Shops vanilla milkshakes, and Troy's famous Ruck wings. She had a profound appreciation for cinema and television, particularly works featuring iconic actors such as Tom Selleck, Matt Damon, Sean Connery, and Richard Dean Anderson, as well as the legendary singer Frank Sinatra.

Above all, Gail was an avid and inspired reader, a true bibliophile who devoured over 40,000 books throughout her lifetime, drawing motivation from her favorite genres, horror and mystery, with Stephen King being one of her most cherished authors. Her love for life was further elevated by the serenity of her lakeside retreat on Lake Elizabeth in Grafton, NY. She is survived by her husband, Thomas; their children, Danielle, Jamie, (Mike Ingram), Laura, and Adam; and by her brother, William Stevens. Gail was predeceased by her mother, Ruth (Evans) Stevens, and brother, David Stevens.
