Fred Hoffay Obituary

Sand Lake, NY  -  Fred J. Hoffay, 77, died peacefully surrounded by his wife and children on September 3, 2022 following a brief illness.  Born May 28, 1945 to Mildred (Herman) and John J. Hoffay.  Fred is predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Helen (Robert) Winney, Frank Hoffay, and Robert (Nancy) Hoffay. Fred is survived by his adored wife, Susan (Stevens) Hoffay and his children, Michael (Kris) Hoffay, Michelle (Dallan) Larson, Jami Kingsley, Abigail Hoffay, Kelli (Brian) Bold , Patrick Quinlan and William Quinlan.  Fred has a multitude of family and extended family members, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom loved and adored him.  A family man at his core, Fred made the time for everyone, and truly cherished every visit, phone call and interaction.

Fred was a master woodworker, carpenter, builder, and craftsman.  His workmanship can be seen in the furniture and many homes he has crafted throughout his lifetime.   His attention to “doing it right” and the little “details that matter” set him apart and he will always be remembered as a well-respected master of his craft.  He will be greatly missed by his family and all that knew him.

Fred enjoyed country music, camping, hunting, reading, horseshoes, darts, raising chickens, playing cards, word puzzles, a good laugh, working with his hands, making homemade hard cider and wines (holding fast to family traditions and recipes), his family and extended families, and holding “church” every Sunday at his kitchen counter.  Everyone was welcomed and accepted around Fred.  Often referred to as “Father Fred” for various reasons, he was a dedicated and devoted father to many people that didn’t share his blood.  Fred was the pillar of his family, a role he took seriously and loved to guide and help anyone seeking his counsel.  A selfless man, honesty and integrity were his foundation.

The family wishes to thank the caring nursing staff at St. Peter’s Hospital ICU for their compassionate care of Dad.
