Emma Ellen (Mason) Ashe

Brunswick - Emma Ellen Mason Ashe, 97, died Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Van Rensselaer Manor after a brief illness.

Born June 20, 1924 in Troy, she was daughter of the late James Mason Sr. and Julia Mary Roos Mason and wife of the late William Morrill Ashe who passed on February 8, 1995.

Emma received her education at Sacred Heart School, Troy and graduated in 1942 from Catholic Central High School, Troy.

Emma worked at Montgomery Wards in the Fishing Department in her Junior year in high school. After graduation in 1942 Emma went to work at the Watervliet Arsenal during WWII. Sometimes after working a shift at the Arsenal, Emma and some friends would take the bus up to Cohoes and ride old US Army Horses for fun. When the war was over Emma went to work for Blue Cross in Albany.

She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Troy. Emma married William Morrill Ashe on Sept. 8, 1951.

Emma and William became parents to a daughter born Feb. 19, 1958 named Diane Elaine Ashe.

She was a homemaker for many years, but later for a few years worked part-time at Samaritan Hospital in Troy in the Cashier department.

Emma loved animals, her dogs Duke and Penny and cats Alfred and Emily. She enjoyed watching her daughter Diane compete in horse shows, family gatherings and picnics at Grafton Lakes State Park and Cherry Plains, baking, gardening, photography, reading, word puzzles, sewing and knitting, short trips to the Apple Barn, Chocolate Barn and Basketville in Vermont.

Emma is survived by her daughter Diane Elaine Ashe of Brunswick, NY and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by all her siblings including, Jay Jason Mason, James J. Mason, Letitia Julia Mason (Willis), Alexander Edward (Bud) Mason, Margaret Mabel Mason (Patton), Raymond Richard Mason and Frank Warren Mason.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 from 10 AM-12 Noon with a service to follow at 12 Noon.  Face covering and social distancing are required if not vaccinated.

Interment will be in  Elmwood Hill Cemetery Troy.
