Troy - Edna Ryan Wells, 104 1/2, of Beechwood Apartments, Troy, died in her home and went to be with her Lord on Sunday, June 26, 2022. The family thanks her exceptional personal caregivers and Community Hospice.
Born in Watervliet, she was the daughter of the late Clarence James Ryan and Susan Howard Ryan and wife of the late Robert Holdridge Wells. She had resided in North Troy for many years and was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School class of 1935 and Russell Sage College class of 1939, and received a 1946 Masters degree from Cornell University.
Edna taught Home Economics in Green Island, Troy and Lansingburgh school districts, retiring in 1977. She stepped on the soil of all 50 states.
She was a member of home economics associations, parent-teacher associations, teacher associations, retired teacher associations, Third Presbyterian Church and formerly the First Baptist Church of Troy and its choir, Sunday School, Women's Service Guild, Diaconate Board and a substitute organist. Edna was also a member of Thursday Morning Club, Seton Cardiac Rehab, Cancer Survivors, Troy YMCA Synchronized Swimming, Church Women United and the Palestine Star Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. Edna also enjoyed playing piano for sing-a-longs for various groups including churches, nursing homes and her beloved Beechwood retirement home.
Survivors include her two daughters, Susan Wells, Troy, and June Foltz, Tucson, AZ; her grandchildren, Eleanor Foltz, Margaret Hiscock, Steven Wells and Paul Wells; a niece, Barbara Phillips, a nephew, Stephen Ryan; and her cousins, Evelyn Murray and Gordon Howard. She was predeceased by her son, Noel Wells; a brother, Walter Ryan; a granddaughter, Susan Emmerson; a niece, Nancy Ryan, and her cousins, Ruth Smith, Robert Howard and Richard Howard.
Edna donated her body to the Anatomical Gift Program of Albany Medical Center.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy on Sunday July 10 from 3-6 PM.
A memorial service will be held on Monday July 11 at 1 PM at Third Presbyterian Church 115 Winter Street, Troy with Rev. John McAuley, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will be at a later date in the Averill family plot in Sand Lake Union Cemetery, Sand Lake.
