Douglas Baldrey II Obituary

Averill Park - Douglas George Baldrey II, 56, died Thursday, May 12, 2022, at his residence after a long illness.

Born in Troy, he was the son of Douglas George Baldrey of Averill Park and the late Ann Smith Baldrey. He had resided in Poestenkill all his life and was a graduate of Averill Park High School, Hudson Valley Community College where he earned his A.S. degree in Engineering Science, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he earned his B.S. degree in Materials Engineering and M.S. degree in Materials Engineering. Doug was a Senior Advisor Engineer for the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory for almost 35 years. 

He was extremely active in youth sports. Doug was involved with the Classie Lassie Girls Softball League for over 30 years where he was a member of the Board of Directors, a team manager, and received the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2008. He was the Team Leader for the SeaPerch Middle School Design Competition for 8 years (winning the regional competition 3 years). He also was a Northeast Parent and Child Society mentor, a Foster Parent, a Junior Achievement volunteer, and coached in the Averill Park Youth Soccer League. Doug earned 3 of KAPL’s prestigious volunteer awards: NOVA Society Chairman’s award, Albert E. Kakretz Award for Community Service and NOVA Society Educational Outreach Award. Doug was a long-time participant in Wednesday night and Sunday morning basketball leagues, played racquetball at the YMCA, played on his work softball team, and enjoyed snowboarding, skiing, and waterskiing. He especially enjoyed time with his family at their camp on Brant Lake.

Survivors in addition to his father include two sisters, Beth Ann (Clay) Ernest, Sand Lake and Jenifer Elizabeth (Kurt) Nichols, Poestenkill; his nieces and nephews, Jonathan Ernest, Kristen (Andrew) Fasoldt, Kyle Ernest and Zachary and Anna Nichols; a great nephew, Logan Fasoldt, and several aunts and cousins including his Aunt Dixie
Baldrey.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Monday, May 16, 2022 from 3-6PM with a funeral service to follow at 6PM with Rev. Dr. Patricia A. Bush, officiating.
