Cohoes - Dorothy A. Teeter, 96, died Tuesday, July 11 at Eddy Village Green.
Born in North Schodack, she was the beloved daughter of the late Josiah O. Dawes and Edith B. Hankle Dawes and wife of the late Martin L. Teeter. She resided there for 43 years before moving to Castleton and later to East Greenbush. She was predeceased by her siblings, Rachel E. Middleton, Malcolm A. Dawes and Donald E. Dawes and half brother, George Dawes.
She was mom to Rosemary Lombardo, Laurie (Randall) Romer, both of East Greenbush and Cathy Teeter, Albany; "Grammy" to Trista (Michael) Borra, Syosset; Jeffrey (Barbara Struss) Lombardo, Jack and David Romer all of East Greenbush and to great grandchildren: Aidan, Abigail and Ty Borra; Alistair and Lemon Lombardo. Survived by many loving nephews and nieces including her Godson, Gerald Middleton as well as former son-in-law, Tony Lombardo and "adopted" family Pam and Jake Farron.
A 1943 graduate of Averill Park High School, Dorothy was employed at Honigsbaum's in Albany, Faith Mills in Averill Park and the Nassau Pen Company before starting a family.
Known for her kind heart and easy going nature, she had a smile for all. A person who always thought of others before herself, she would be the first person to send a card when someone was sick, if you were visiting her there would invariably be a stack of newspaper clippings or articles of interest she saved for you. We are sure she will have "extra large wings" in heaven. She enjoyed dominoes, reading, crossword puzzles, crafts, caring for her grandchildren and working with the women's group at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church. She never met a Jello recipe she wouldn't try (much to her daughters' dismay) or a sweet she didn't like.
The family would like to thank Jess, Donna and staff of House 21 at EVG Cohoes and her long-time caregiver Shaneeka, without whom she would not have been able to live at home for so many years.
Calling hours will be at DeGraaf -Bryce Funeral Home, Inc., 4392 Route 150, West Sand Lake on Monday, July 17 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm followed by a short service with Pastor Beth George officiating. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, East Schodack.
