Donald Madsen Obituary

Wynantskill - Donald A. Madsen, 68, died Saturday, June 19, 2021, at his residence after a long illness.

Born in Rochester, he was son of  Shirley Film Madsen of Troy and the late William C. Madsen and husband for 46 years of Lynn A. Carley Madsen. He had resided most of his life in Wynantskill and was a graduate of Troy High School and attended Stratford Career Institute.

Don was a security guard at the Harriman State Office Campus and the Empire State Plaza for the NYS Police for 13 years, retiring in 2017. Prior to that, he worked for Rensselaer County Buildings Dept. for 11 years and Freihofer Baking Co. as a carpenter for 12 years.   

He was a member of the Troy Lodge of Elks, Taconic Rod and Gun Club and the Rensselaer County Auxiliary Police.  His hobbies included camping, vacations with his family, attending bluegrass festivals, motorcycles, making stained glass and collecting autographs of sports stars and musicians.  He was an avid sports fanatic and his favorite team, the NY Jets. 

Survivors in addition to his wife and mother include two daughters, Sara (Joseph) Walsh, Wynantskill and Kelly Madsen, East Greenbush; a brother, William C. (Regina) Madsen, Jr., Melrose; a sister, Mary Beth (John) Amato, Slingerlands; three granddaughters, Carley, Madelyn and Olivia Walsh; a nephew and three nieces, Maryjo, Sean, Laura and Melissa and 4 grand nephews and a grand niece. 

The family would like to thank NYOH, Drs. Galati, Kambam and Sulzman and their staffs and The Community Hospice.   
 
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 from 4-7 PM

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at 9:30AM at  St. Jude the Apostle Church 43 Brookside Avenue Wynantskill where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Zachariah Chichester.  Face covering and social distancing are required if not vaccinated.

Interment will be in Elmwood Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Donald A. Madsen to the American Cancer Society One Penny Lane  Latham, NY 12110.
