Albany - Donald Joseph Anthony Jr., known affectionately as DJ to his family and friends, died on November 28, 2023, at Albany Medical Center after a long illness. Born on January 19, 1953, in Troy, New York, to parents Donald Joseph Anthony and Norma Helen Passafaro Anthony, DJ's life was marked by his devotion to his children and granddaughter.
DJ's early years in Troy were filled with fun and adventures with his many friends and the warmth of a close-knit family. He was a happy go lucky sibling who brought laughter and mirth and music into the lives of his siblings: Donna Marie Mooney (Michael), Mark Joseph Anthony (Patricia), Norma Anthony Martino (Emilio), and Susan Anthony Geisler (Paul). After graduating from LaSalle Institute, DJ went on to Providence College in Rhode Island.
After college DJ pursued a career in banking and finance.
DJ was a man of many passions. He was an avid sports enthusiast, with a particular fondness for hockey, skiing, and golf. His love for these sports began in his youth and continued throughout his life, providing him with joy and camaraderie. DJ loved playing the piano, and he enjoyed all music, and dancing at weddings, parties, and evenings out.
Beyond his hobbies and career, DJ's greatest pride was his family. He was a devoted father to his children, Donald Patrick Anthony (Andrea), Alexandra Elizabeth Dempsey (Kara), and Patrick Kelly Anthony. His children will always cherish the memories of him skating and skiing with them, tossing the ball in the backyard, vacationing in Maine, and their weekly “TGIF” nights with Dad. His granddaughter, Everly Olivia Anthony, was the apple of his eye, and it brought him great joy to be her “Papa.” DJ was beyond excited for the arrival of his grandson this December.
DJ is also survived by his former wife, Elizabeth Kelly Anthony, who, alongside his children, grandchildren, siblings, and many nephews and nieces, and great-nephews and nieces, will continue to honor his memory.
DJ was an easy-going person who believed in the motto "Live and Let Live". He will be deeply missed.
To the Daughters of Sarah Center for Seniors and to Albany Medical Center, the family expresses their deep gratitude for their compassionate attention and professional care given to DJ throughout the course of his illness.
Funeral services will be held for Donald Joseph Anthony Jr. on January 20, 2024 at Sacred Heart Church in Troy, NY. Calling hours are from 9 to 10:30 am at the church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am.
