West Sand Lake - Deborah A. Hengsterman, 79, died unexpectedly Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late G. Emmett Roarke and Helen L. Johnson Roarke and the wife of Robert F. Hengsterman.Debbie was a 1963 graduate of Catholic Central High School and earned her Associates degree in Industrial Management from Hudson Valley Community College.
Debbie was one of the first female apprentice at the Watervliet Arsenal where she retired as a production controller.
Being a breast cancer survivor, she enjoyed participating in Breast Cancer Awareness events. Debbie and Bob loved to travel and see the world; having traveled to Egypt, Africa, Ireland, France to name a few, as well as, throughout the United States. They would travel to the Country Fest in Nashville and the Seafood Festival in Hampton Beach or vacation near racetracks to catch a NASCAR event. Most recently, they would summer here in NY and spend winters avoiding the cold weather in Florida.
Survivors in addition to her husband, Bob, include her 4 children, Robert E. (Staci) Hengsterman, Richard E. (Stacey) Hengsterman, Cynthia L. (Adam) Beal and Sandra L. (Dean) Krissler; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; her brother, Paul Roarke and 5 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, William 'Bud' Roarke.
Relatives and friends may call at the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 4392 NY150, West Sand Lake on Sunday, December 29, 2024 from 3 - 5PM with a service to follow at 5PM with Rev. Edward Kacerguis, officiating.
Interment will be in Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road Schuylerville, NY on Monday, April 28, 2025 at 11AM. If you are going to attend, please arrive by 10:45AM.
