Watervliet - David Robert Campbell, 77, of Watervliet, died early Monday, July 5th, at Albany Medical Center Hospital with his beloved daughter, Heather Goodall, at his side.
David was born in Cohoes on October 29, 1943, the son of Joseph E. and Ruth B. Campbell. David grew up in Defreestville and spent happy childhood summers at the family’s camp on Taconic Lake near Grafton, NY.
David graduated from the High Mowing School in Wilton, NH, and from Silvermine College of Art in New Canaan, CT. For many years David worked with his father in his optical business, Joseph E. Campbell Opticians in Albany and East Greenbush.
A talented artist, David was sketching from his hospital bed right up to the day before his passing. He was as brave as he was funny, he had a voracious appetite for delicious foods, and he enjoyed a lifelong love affair with the movies — especially the classic monster genre. After reuniting with his loved ones in Heaven, David has surely requested of St. Peter a lengthy dinner appointment with Lon Chaney and Boris Karloff.
David is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, William and Andrea Campbell; a sister, Sarah Becker; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Edward Petteys; a daughter, Heather; four grandchildren, Paul, Jessie, Riley and Lauren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by his parents and a grandson, Michael James Fahrenkopf.
The family would like to thank David’s many wonderful friends and neighbors at Cabrini Acres for all their kindness and friendship over these past 10 years. He thoroughly enjoyed his life there.
Calling hours for David will be at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy, on Thursday, July 8th, from 10 am to12 noon. A funeral service led by the Rev. Adam Wiegand of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Saratoga Springs, will begin at noon. An interment of cremains at Oakwood Cemetery will follow.
Memorial gifts in David’s name may be made to his grandson’s memorial scholarship, the Fahrenkopf-Dyson Scholarship at Clarkson University, 8 Clarkson Ave, Potsdam, NY 13699.
