Brunswick - Charles John Nagel, 82, died Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Van Rensselaer Manor after a brief illness.
Born in Monticello, NY, he was son of the late Charles Nagel and Margaret M. Farrell Nagel and husband for 43 years of the late Mary Dougherty Nagel. He was raised in Grahamsville and Roscoe, NY and resided in Brunswick since 2008. He was a graduate of Roscoe Central School in Roscoe, NY and earned his Bachelor's degree from Penn State University.
Charles worked for New York State Department of Transportation for 40 years, retiring as the Director of Landscape Architecture in 2006.
He loved traveling with his family, hunting, fishing, was an avid reader and loved history. He was a 55 year active member of the American Legion Post #426 in Pine Plains. Charles’ grandchildren were the joys of his life. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his children, Theresa (James I.) Sullivan, Brunswick, Charles E. (Charlene A.) Nagel, Averill Park and Clayton J. (Sarah M.) Nagel, Galway; his grandchildren, James I. Sullivan II, Marissa A. and Abigayle E. Nagel. Also survived by his beloved significant other, Jeannine Ricard and her family in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada.
Funeral service will be held Friday, June 14, 2024 at 12 Noon at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy. Interment will follow at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
