Charles Hack Obituary

Delanson - Forever celebrated Charles (Chuck) “Poppy” R. Hack, age 73, passed away on Thursday August 12, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Troy  and raised in Averill Park he is the second of three sons born to the late Charles and Agnes (Olbert) Hack.

Survivors include his wife, Mary (Mahar) of Delanson, NY and three children Jeffrey (Scott) of Salem, NH, Brian (Tanya) of Delanson, NY, and Colleen (Mike) of Endicott, NY.  Brother of Gary (Jerry) of West Sand Lake, NY and the late Richard Hack of Averill Park, NY.  Son in law to the late James Mahar and Francis (Kelly) Mahar.  Beloved poppy to 4 grandchildren Madison, Morgan, Mason, and Domenick.  Nephew’s Cory (Diana) of Hollis, ME, Shane of New York, NY and late Niece Kristin of West Sand Lake, NY, Brother-in-law to John (Jan), Bill and the late Janet Maher, Steve and the late Amy Mahar.  Affectionately known as Uncle Chuck to Stacey, Chris (Sarah), Greg (Lauren) , Ezra.  Marla (Brian), Laura, Jenny, Bill, Jimmy, Dan (Jennifer), and Stephanie.

Chuck AKA “Buzzard” attended Averill Hill High School and graduated from Siena College with a Master’s Degree in Business Management.  Chuck later worked for the Watervliet Arsenal for 38 years before retiring.

Married for 50 years Chuck met the love of his life at a school dance while he was playing Saxophone in the band The Coachmen.

Chuck was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman and spent many years on the waters of Lake Ontario with his family and friends.  Chuck was an afficionado of all things vulgar and loved to shock people with his colorful vocabulary and newly learned phrases, a trait he gladly handed down to his children.

Chucks pride and joy were his grandchildren and watching the family he created grow.  Chuck continued the annual tradition of the Hack family vacation in York Beach, Maine every summer. It is a tradition never missed by the family and a tradition that will continue to create many memories for generations of Hacks. There are many poppy stories from these vacations that will be re-told every year and become legend for the Hack clan.

Chuck would do anything for those he accepted into his circle and this characteristic will be deeply missed by those who knew him well.

The family would like to recognize Sue from Community Hospice and family friend Chrissie B for their extraordinary care and compassion in Chuck’s last days.

Relatives and friends may call at the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  4392NY150, West Sand Lake on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 from 1-3 PM with a funeral service at 3PM with Deacon Charles Wojton, officiating.  Face covering and social distancing are required if not vaccinated.
