Cecil Kent Duncan, Sr. Obituary

North Greenbush (formerly of Sycaway and Brunswick)
Cecil Kent Duncan, Sr., at 87 died comfortably in his residence, with his family by his side on April 19, 2023. He lived an extraordinary life

Kent  was born in Troy, New York on February 14,1936, to the late Charles Cecil Duncan and Gertrude Mittenzwey Duncan. He was predeceased by his sister Diane D. Rounds and a brother Keith A. Duncan. He was the husband of the late AnnaMarie Hangst Duncan. He is the father of Cecil Kent Duncan Jr.(wife Heidi) grandchildren Jessica and Cole and Selina Duncan Mahar (husband Jack). He is also the step father to Tracy Baldwin, Kerri Slavickas(daughter Gracie), Alison Serrano(son Liam).

He lived in Sycaway and Brunswick most of his life, but lived the last three years in a home he loved in North Greenbush being lovingly cared for by his family until his last breath. He will be missed and mourned, but remembered as a beautiful soul who found the good in all things, cherished life and loved intentionally.

Kent was a football player and graduate of Troy High School in 1956, he was given the honor of being inducted to the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016.

Kent was the President of Sycaway Creamery Inc. from 1962-1992 He was the farmer behind the Dairy, milking cows at 4am everyday for over 50 years. He told anyone who would listen about his “girls” and how he cared for them. The time to retire from the dairy left him searching for a purpose and a place to socialize…”work” He found that working at the Rensselaer County Building doing maintenance. The countless people he worked with that looked for his smile are a testament to the man that he was, always ready to help, always willing to be the first one at 2am to drive the plow. At 80 years old, after 22 years he officially retired.

He was passionate about so many things, loved and cared for so many, he lived and loved without prejudice. He was a coach, and an athlete, he swam, he bowled, he played tennis, he coached and played softball, But his forte was golf. He excelled at the game and shared his love for the game with his golfing buddies traveling to play and locally in leagues at Frear Park and the Troy Country Club. He even fulfilled his dream to play the courses at Pebble Beach, sparing no expense to bring his “boys” to play.

He was a member of the Emerald Club, Kiwanis, and was on the board at the Farm Bureau. But most importantly he was a man of integrity, a man of faith, a man who truly lived to serve. He will be missed, But the memories live on, the stories get retold and we are always reminded to  Smile, Laugh, Be Happy and to have Faith, Hope, and Courage
