Catherine 'Kate' Diehl Obituary

North Greenbush - Catherine (Kate) Diehl, 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 12th, 2022.

Kate was born on September 10, 1942, in Middletown, New York.  She was the third of six children of the late J. Raymond and Julia (Wengenroth) Diehl. Predeceased by her brother J. Raymond Diehl Jr and sister Sr Mary Anne Diehl, PVBM. She is survived by sister, Julie (John) Darling; her sister-in-law, Egia(Ray deceased) Diehl and brothers, John (Donna) Diehl and David (Debbie) Diehl; 10 nieces and nephews, and 12 great nieces and nephews.

Kate had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel.  She loved dogs and had several rescue pups throughout the years.  They were impeccably trained and traveled with her wherever she went.  Kate was an avid reader and her bookshelves were always filled with books.  She loved a good mystery, Agatha Christie being a favorite but read a wide range of genres including The Lord of the Rings trilogy.   She also enjoyed watching classic films.

A graduate of Nazareth College, Kate started her career as a social worker in Rochester, Monroe County and was very kind and effective in helping the less fortunate.  She advanced to the position of Supervisor and then found an interest in computers and data.  She was one of the first women to hold a position in the department of data management during a time when women did not find acceptance in the field of IT.  She was highly regarded and very successful, paving the way for other women in the field.

Kate was an active woman of faith in the Catholic Church serving as a Eucharistic Minister . She retained her faith during hard times and health struggles and ever faithfully recited the Memorare  for others in need.

Cathie (Kate) was a wonderful Aunt and spoiled her nieces and nephews.  She always arrived with gifts and treats for them.  They have fond memories of sleepovers at Aunt Cathie’s house which always included staying up too late and eating junk food.  Many hours were spent at her dining room table playing all sorts of board games, dominoes, and card games.  She also enjoyed taking her nieces on shopping sprees for trendy clothes, make-up and decadent luncheons to complete the fun day.
