Carol Owens Obituary

GLENS FALLS, NY - Carol Ann (Clark) Owens, passed away on Easter Sunday, March 31,2024, at the age of 86 in Glens Falls, New York. Born on April 3, 1937, in Troy, NY, Carol was the only child of the late Arthur Jackson Clark and Marguerite Spencer Clark.

Carol grew up in Wynantskill, NY with her cherished Boston Terrier, Billie at her side and her lifelong love of dogs ensued. As a child she played the clarinet and fondly remembers family outings on the Erie and Champlain canals on their Chris Craft Cruiser. She graduated from the Syracuse University School of Nursing in 1958 and embarked on a nursing career while raising three sons. Carol resided in Bridgeport, CT, King of Prussia, PA, Dorset, VT and most recently Queensbury, NY. She was the Director of the Montgomery Hospital School of Nursing in Norristown, PA, and earned her Masters Degree in Educational Administration from West Chester State College in West Chester, PA. She retired in 1997 as head of the Hospital-based Home Care program at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, NY, after twenty years of service in the Veterans Administration in Coatesville, PA and Albany, NY.

Over the various seasons of her adult life as a single mother with a service-oriented nursing career, Carol enjoyed considerable travel both here and abroad, including periods of outdoor activities like sailing, hiking, birding and gardening. Soon after retiring in Dorset, Vermont she looked forward to regular visits from her sons and their children, with Texas Brownies, lemon bars and hand-knit socks at the ready. Carol enthusiastically resumed her passion for knitting, working part time at Claire Murray’s rug store, and volunteering at the Hildene (Robert Todd Lincoln Family home). In 2009 Carol relocated to Queensbury, NY, where she volunteered at The Hyde Collection and resumed her life-long love of music as an altoist in community choirs and as a member of the choir and bell choir at the First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls.

A devoted mother, Carol is survived by her three sons and grandchildren: David Cramer (married to MaryAnn Cramer) of Fuquay Varina, NC; Scott Owens (married to Kathy Owens) of Bedford, MA; Douglas Cramer (married to Erin Coe) of State College, PA; grandson, Sean Cramer and granddaughter Kailyn Cramer both of Fuquay Varina, NC; grandson, Benjamin Cramer of Baltimore, MD; granddaughter, Madeline Cramer of Nashville, TN.

A private burial is planned at the Cemetery of the Evergreens, New Lebanon, NY with Pastor Patrick Wrisley of First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls officiating, with a remembrance to be scheduled at a later date for family and friends. Carol’s faith was important to her throughout her life, and her family and friends are comforted by the knowledge that Carol is in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

In appreciation for the exceptional and loving medical care she received and her love of music, we encourage donations to the C.R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital or the Beeman Music Fund at the First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls in lieu of flowers. To share a condolence  please visit brycefuneralhome.com
