Troy - Bernard J. “Boomer” Martin, 78, died Monday, January 29, 2024, at Samaritan Hospital.
Born in Manhattan, NY, he was the son of the late John Martin and Mary Ann Reilly Martin and husband for 27 years of Dr. Mary Kyle Dyer-Martin. He had resided in Troy for 19 years. He earned his Bachelor of Engineering from Manhattan College and later received his PE (Professional Engineer) license from New York State.
Bernard was a Resident Engineer who worked for many firms throughout his career, but most recently consulted for CHA Consulting in Colonie until his retirement in 2010.
Boomer was a dedicated Rugby player for both the Albany Knickerbockers and the Schenectady Reds and coached Rugby for both Siena College and Fordham University. He was a member of the Met NY Rugby Referee Society. He was passionate about Thoroughbred racing and “voted” at OTB regularly. Boomer was very proud of his Bronx roots.
Survivors in addition to his wife, include many in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Eugene P. Martin and John P. Martin.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 4 - 7PM.
Funeral service will be held Friday, at 10:30 AM at the funeral home and at 11AM at Our Lady of Victory Church Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery Troy.
