Troy - Barbara Shaw Logan, 96, died Thursday, August 5, 2021, at St. Peter's Nursing & Rehab Center.
Born in Carver, MA, Barbara was the daughter of Ernest Wakefield Shaw and Kathleen Mary Arthur Shaw, and was married to John Ivan Logan for 54 years. She was predeceased by her husband and siblings, Bradford and Donald Shaw, Kathleen Anderson and John Shaw. She is survived by four children, Jennifer (Karl) Ebert, Millbury, MA, Melanie (Robert) Pullo, Harwich, MA, Bradford (Terri) Logan, Warwick, RI, and Deborah (Rodney) Aldrich, Troy, NY; seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She kept both family and friends in her heart and loved us all.
Barbara was raised in Carver, MA, attending schools in Carver, Middleborough and Boston, where she graduated from Burdett Business School. As a youth, she enjoyed tennis and sailing on Sampson's Pond. Following her marriage to John ("Ivy") Logan in 1950, she lived in Middleborough, MA, Providence, RI and was a longtime resident of Delmar, NY. For many years she served as church secretary and volunteer at the First United Methodist Church of Delmar.
Mom was an organizer, planning our summer weeks in Carver at the family property on Sampson's Pond, and camping trips with other families to Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire. Music was central to family life, beginning with learning many songs in the family car while traveling. All children were involved in musical performance and Mom was our greatest fan. As grandparents, Nana and Grandad loved spending time with their grandchildren, often taking them on trips and creating lifelong memories.
In later years, Barbara lived in an in-law apartment in Troy, NY with Deb and Rod Aldrich. She was an avid birder who kept daily bird lists and was a cardshark who enjoyed a friendly game with all generations. She also spent time doing puzzles, reading, and participating in current political discussions. Mom was the family historian and genealogist, and keeper of all lists. She loved to write letters and kept diaries throughout her life, keeping memories sharp and stories alive. She was an inspiration for all of us to maintain strong family ties.
