Allen Armsby Obituary

WEST SAND LAKE - Today and for the rest of our lives, we mourn the loss of our father, Allen Harold Armsby, who passed away on Friday, the 28 th of November, 2025.

Born on the 5 th of December in 1938, in Berlin, New York, Allen was the second child of Mildred (Hewitt) and Leland Armsby and the Irish twin to his late brother, Leland Armsby, Jr.

Allen attended Berlin Central Schools with lifelong friends John and Carol Goodermote and Ed Seagroatt. He served in the United States Air Force with a lengthy stay in Aviano, Italy, which he enjoyed immensely. He spent his career with Niagara Mohawk in the Transportation Department and was extremely fortunate to take advantage of early retirement.

Our father worked hard to be present for us as children, attending our games and school events, taking us on outings, to family parties, and on too many vacations to count. He was what every “girl dad” should be: our biggest cheerleader, defender, and supporter. For years, we have missed walks on the beaches of the Cape, Friday pizza nights, rounds of badminton in the back yard, and going out for ice cream with him anytime and anywhere. Those days to us will always feel like yesterday.

Allen was married to our mom, Karen (Campbell) for over 58 years. She has been the constant in his life, and she remained faithfully devoted to him, serving as the love of his life and his primary caregiver. She was his rock, the person he could not live without, especially during the most trying times of his life.

Allen enjoyed playing racquetball and fishing trips with his best friend John Goodermote and both the Armsby and Goodermote families shared many family gatherings and vacations together. He also enjoyed college hockey and was a season ticket holder at RPI for nearly two decades. Allen, along with his gregarious brother Lee, were often the center of our family functions. Dad was never quite the same after his brother and John passed and we take comfort in knowing they have been reunited once again.

By far, the largest joy in life for our father was the time he was able to spend with his three grandchildren, Connor, Carter, and Harrison. He loved them completely and their presence sustained him and brought him tremendous happiness and pride. In addition to his wife, his 3 daughters Nicole, Rebecca, and Michelle, and his 3 grandsons, Allen is survived by his children’s partners, Jordon, Dennis, and Paul, and several cousins, including Rolland and Rita, and his beloved nieces and nephews and their growing families. He is also survived by sister’s-in-law Dawn, Sharon, and Paula and brother’s in-law Fred, and Joe.

We are tremendously grateful for the excellent care our father received during his illness and extend our gratitude to St. Peters Hospital, and especially the nursing and supportive staff, for their exceptional care during several stays in the later part of his life.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to Community Hospice for making this transition for all of us as peaceful as possible. We are deeply grateful for Pastor Kristi’s counsel and the support from the Salem United Methodist Church Congregation. A special thank you to Dr. Lettrick and the staff of Lettrick Family Medicine in Schodack for their amazing support and compassion. Finally, we reserve our sincerest gratitude for Dr. Ronnie Luyun, our dad’s hematologist & oncologist, who is the reason why we were able to enjoy several additional years with our father after he initially became ill.
