Yvonne Krause Welch

West Sand Lake - Yvonne Krause Welch of Route 150 died Saturday, January 19, 2013 at her home under hospice care surrounded by her family.

Born in Albion, NY, she was daughter of Marie Roberts Krause, the late Leon Krause and wife of Darrell P. Welch. She was raised in Bason, NY and resided in Albany prior to moving to West Sand Lake in 1968. She was a graduate of State University of NY at Albany, class of 1962.

Yvonne was an artist making fine art prints and textile collage, and a designer, teacher and curator. Much of her recent textile work involved designing and constructing liturgical hangings, paraments and vestments for churches and private individuals. Earlier in her career she taught workshops and classes in contemporary embroidery and lectured on liturgical textile art. She is the author of several instruction booklets and do it yourself workshop programs. At the time she was an active member of the New York Capital District Chapter of the Embroiderers Guild of America.

For ten years, until 2010 she was director of Visions Gallery in Albany NY. She also helped curate several shows for Christians in the Visual Arts, of which she was a member, and guest curated for local venues. She was member of Albany Center Gallery, the East Bank Artist Alliance and contributed to the Sand Lake Center for the Arts visual arts program.

When her children were young, Yvonne taught Sunday School at Salem United Methodist Church and was leader of the Feathered Friends 4-H Club. Besides family, friends and art, she loved reading, walking, flower gardening, and just being outside. She attended Church of the Covenant in Averill Park.

Survivors in addition to her husband and mother include two sons, Gavin W. (Jingping Xie) Welch, Cape Elizabeth ME and Garth G. Welch, Albany; a brother, Bryan L. (Cynthia) Krause, Walnut Creek, CA; a sister, Brenda K. (Wayland) Eheart, Champaign IL and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Church of the Covenant in Averill Park in the spring.
