William Patrick Collopy, 81

Averill Park - William Patrick Collopy, 81, of Methodist Farm Road died Tuesday, November 02, 2010.

He was son of the late Harry Collopy and Elizabeth Hope Collopy and the husband of Patricia M. Nial Collopy for 59 years. He was born in Watervliet , raised in Lansingburgh and for the past 20 years resided in Averill Park. He was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School and attended St. Michael's and Siena Colleges.

Mr. Collopy was the President of Careful Carpet World , Inc for 40 years. Upon his retirement in 1988, he became a monitor and tennis coach at Averill Park High School until July 2010.

He was a member of the Troy Tennis Association, a USTA umpire officiating at Forest Hills and other venues, a member of the Troy Country Club , a basketball and football player in high school and college, a co-founder with his wife of the Hudson Mohawk Valley Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation. He was a member of the Army National Guard.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, Daniel (Kathleen) Collopy of Averill Park; a daughter, Virginia Collopy Gardner of Troy; his twin sister, Alice (Charles) Ellett of Waterford; a sister, Elizabeth (John) Evans; his grandchildren, Vanessa, Courtney, and Michael Collopy and David and Brian Gardner; a great grandchild, Jack Collopy; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joseph and Catherine Nial of Malta. He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Collopy, and by three son, Michael, William, and David Collopy who from died of Cystic Fibrosis.

A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday at 11:30 AM at the St. Henry's Church Old Route 66 Averill Park with Rev. John Provost , Pastor.

Relatives and friends may call at the CHURCH on Saturday from 10:30- 11:30 AM prior to the service.

Interment at a later date at St. John's Cemetery in North Troy.

Kindly omit flowers. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of William Patrick Collopy to the Averill Park High School Tennis Team.
