William G. Barber, Jr.

Wynantskill - William G. Barber Jr., 62, of Rhodes Avenue died Monday, June 9, 2014, at Samaritan Hospital surrounded by his entire loving family.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late William G. Barber Sr. and Dorothy DeLair Barber. He had resided in Wynantskill all his life.

When Bill was in the navy he was assigned the duty of being a "Barber" due to his last name, which became his lifelong career. He owned many hair salons and Barber shops throughout the Capital District,  including a well known shop on Campbell Avenue in Troy, The Barber's Shop.  He most recently opened a second location in Rensselaer.  His son Bill will continue to operate the Barber's Shop on Campbell Avenue in Troy.  Barber's shop began as a spin off of Bill Barber's Apollo International Hair Replacement business.

He was a very well respected lifelong member of the Wynantskill American Legion Post 1489 and a Navy veteran of the Vietnam era.

Survivors include his son, William Barber III, Wynantskill; his granddaughter, Chelsie Barber; his sister, Ada Rubino, Troy; several nieces and nephews, for whom he was a father figure and anchor; his former wives, Theresa Mainella and Cynthia Farrington; and his best friend and dog, Jax . He was predeceased by his brother James Barber and sister Donna Blackman. He was loved dearly by many close friends, especially his good friend Jim Naylor. Bill was generous and giving to his family and friends his entire life. At the end of his life, he was still trying to console his family when leaving us and entering heaven as our angel.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Thursday, June 12, 2014 from 4-7 PM.

Funeral service will be held Friday, at 10 AM at the funeral home and at 10:30 AM at St. Jude the Apostle Church Wynantskill where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Anthony Ligato, Pastor.

Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery Troy.
