Walter L. Dorfner, 90

Troy - Walter L. Dorfner, 90, of Beechwood Apartments Burdett Avenue died Saturday September 13, 2008 after a long illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late John Dorfner and Elsie (Richter) Dorfner and husband of Anne T.(Hourigan) Dorfner

Born and raised in Troy, he resided in East Greenbush for 43 years and at Beechwood since 2003. He was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Mr Dorfner was a senior specification writer for the New York State Office of General Services for many years.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II stationed on the USS Saratoga.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter, Gretchen (Matthew) Frank of Woodside, CA; two sisters. Ruth Slonneger of Illinois and Marie (John) Keevern of Clifton Park; 7 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Walter J. Dorfner.

Funeral service will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery Troy. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Walter L. Dorfner to the charity of ones choice.
