Vincent Dempsey

Latham Vincent ‘Bill’ Dempsey, 84, of Spring Avenue, died Thursday at his residence after a long illness. 

Born in Brooklyn, NY he was son of the late Lawrence  and Josephine Groblewski Dempsey and husband for the past 60 years of Frances Mason Dempsey. He had resided in Latham for 35 years and was educated at Brooklyn schools.

Mr. Dempsey was employed at J. DeBeer and Son in Albany for 15  years retiring in 1980 as production manager.  Prior to that he was employed at Eastern Tablet Company in Albany for 25 years. 

He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Troy for 54 years where he was a member of the Board of Trustees, and served as chairman of the Board of Ushers and Deacons.  He had many hobbies including, cooking, photography, music, stamp collecting, travel and baseball.  He served in the Army in World War II in the Battle of Attu in the Aleutian Islands.
     
Survivors in addition to his wife include two nieces, Charlotte Doyle of Reston, VA and Judith Dempsey of Brooklyn; three nephews, Bruce Dempsey of  San Diego, Todd Dempsey of Union City, NJ and Larry Dempsey of Brooklyn and his beloved and adopted niece and nephew Linda Lederman of Glenville and Stephen Zoltan of Poughquag.  He was predeceased by two brothers, John and Edward Dempsey and three sisters, Agnes Browning and Pauline and Charlotte Dempsey.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:00am from First Baptist Church 82 Third Street Troy with Rev. Douglas Thomson, Pastor, officiating. 

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. corner of Pawling at Maple Avenues Troy Friday from 4-7pm. Interment Meadowlawn Cemetery in Petersburg.
