Thomas Alan Boehm, 62

West Sand Lake - Thomas Alan Boehm, 62, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012, at his residence after a 9 year courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. His enthusiasm for life was documented in a CBS6Albany video entitled Cycling for Life : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiDKT3mx5oI

Born in Jamestown, ND on October 11, 1949, , he was son of the late Phillip N. Boehm and Jessie I. Christensen Boehm and husband for 35 years of Anne E. Kelsey Boehm. He resided in West Sand Lake for 33 years and attended St. Johns Academy, Jamestown High School, Jamestown College and graduated from the University of Oregon with a BS degree in 1972.

Mr. Boehm was employed by the NYS Department of Transportation in many capacities for 28 years, retiring as Chief of Staff.

He was a member of the Mohawk Hudson Cycling Club and the Tandem Club of America. His life -long passions were his dedication to bicycle mechanics, tandem biking, back country skiing snowshoeing, and being a master craftsman. His most memorable cycling trips were the self guided tour of Alaska in 1997; in and around the southwest; crossing the USA in 2007, biking 4000 miles in 2010, and the annual ADA Tour de Cure. Tom's belief was "Attitude isEverything." and his parting words were, "I am okay; it is important that you are okay too".

Survivors in addition to his wife include two sisters, Dorothy (John) Leary, Thermal, CA and Phyllis (Darrell) Machtell, Valley City, ND; his nieces and nephews, John, Stacey, Heather, Craig, Krissy, Christine, Nicholas, Daniel, Trevor, Raquel, Christine, Patrick, Andrew, and Colleen; his mother-in-law, Rosemarie Kelsey, Freehold, NJ; his brothers-in-law, James and William Kelsey and his sister-in-law, Maureen Kelsey. He was predeceased by a niece, Shelly Morgan, his father-in-law William P. Kelsey and brother-in-law Michael P. Kelsey.

The family wishes to thank The Community Hospice of Rensselaer County.

There will be a memorial service to remember and honor Thomas A. Boehm, avid cyclist and trusted public servant for the State of New York (Department of Transportation) on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 1:30 PM in the Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center on the UAlbany uptown campus in Albany, NY. A reception will follow at 2:30 PM.
