Suzanne Benson

Troy - Suzanne Benson, 66, of Beechwood at Eddy Memorial, Burdett Avenue, died Thursday, December 27, 2018, at St. Peter’s Hospital Albany after a long illness.

Born in Dearborn, MI, she was a daughter of the late Paul J. Benson, M.D. and Kathleen Luddy Benson. She was raised in Dearborn, and came to the Capital District via Rochester more than 30 years ago. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart School in Dearborn. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Michigan University and her Master’s in Social Work from Syracuse University. She was a longtime resident of Washington Park in Troy.

Ms. Benson was employed by the New York State Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) and its predecessors in Albany. She worked in OPWDD’s Office of Regulatory Affairs before retiring in 2016.

She was active in the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market and was also an active volunteer with the ARC of Rensselaer County and the Troy Public Library.  She fostered many cats as a volunteer with Project SNIP.    

She is survived by her four siblings: Mary Benson (Stephen) Muller, Troy; Francis X. (Linda) Benson, Tampa, FL; Joanne Benson (Michael) Beckish, Surfside, FL; John P. (Christine) Benson, Dover, MA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 from 4-7PM . 

Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 10AM at St. Anthony of Padua Church 28 State Street Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Rev. Richard Donovan, O.F.M., officiating
