Stephen Prigozy

Averill Park - Stephen Prigozy, a loving husband, father and grandfather died at his home in Averill Park on September 25. He was three weeks shy of his 82' birthday.

Steve studied electrical engineering at Cornell, BSEE, Columbia, MSEE, and City University of New York, PhD. He started out working in industry on Long Island and in the late 1970's began a teaching career, briefly at SUNY Maritime College in the Bronx and until retirement at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point.

Steve had a wide variety of interests. In college he developed a lifelong interest in the early telegraph and shared that interest with a wide circle of fellow enthusiasts he met at shows and on the internet. He was fascinated with computers and not only built his first one, a Heathkit, by himself but later on succeeded in creating computer systems for several small businesses.

Steve also liked to build things. He single-handedly renovated an old house in Great Neck building a new kitchen, two bathrooms, and a deck and also made major renovations to his house in Averill Park.

After retirement when he wasn't programming or building, Steve spent his time working in the garden, reading, and entertaining his friends with snappy one-liners and endless puns. He will be remembered for his helpful and generous nature, his intelligence, his optimism, his caring and sunny disposition and, not least, those outrageous puns.
